In his artistic work, Martin Sieverding combines a great variety of different techniques and materials. On his many travels, but also at home in the Ruhr Valley, he observes and photographs his surroundings. Of special interest to him are processes of weathering and decay, the colors and structures of which he records photographically.

In the spirit of lyrical abstraction, he creates his paintings almost archeologically, seeking within the numerous layers of paint the picture that is lying there in wait of discovery. The result is works in high relief, arising up out of a continuous process of creation and destruction using very different materials.

The space pictures, situated somewhere on the border between painting and sculpture, offer a view not only into the different levels of the pictures but also into the picture’s surroundings.

In many different ways, all the works mirror inner as well as outer processes and reflect themes like beauty and transience.
